Dato ‘Mohamed Khaled Nordin was born in Muar, Johor on 30 November 1958. He received his early education at Sekolah Rendah Ledang, Tangkak and secondary education at Muar High School before continuing his studies at Maktab Sultan Abu Bakar, Johor Bahru.

He then went to further his studies at the University Of Malaya and was awarded with the Bachelor Of Laws in 1982. Khaled joined the Legal Department of Petroleum National (PETRONAS).

Khaled married Datin Seri Rosni Omar in 1986 and was bestowed with a son.

Khaled was appointed as Political Secretary to the Minister of Federal Territories (1983-1986) and Political Secretary to the Minister of Social Welfare (1986-1987), Dato’ Shahrir Abdul Samad. Khaled’s career as an MP started in 1990 when he won the Johor Bahru Parliamentary seat for three consecutive terms (1999, 2004 and 2008) until the move to the newly formed Pasir Gudang Parliamentary seat, resulting form the redrawing of election constituency. He was also the Head of UMNO Pasir Gudang division until now.

The role and contribution of Khaled were required in government due to his appointment as Deputy Minister of Public Works that took effect in December 1999. Immediately after the 2004 General Election, he was promoted to Minister of Entrepreneur and Cooperative Development.

From 1 April 2008, he was entrusted to lead the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) until 2013.
